Slaves of Timothy Freeman

Transcription of Deed:

State of North Carolina

Gates County

Know all men by these presents that I Timothy Freeman of the County of Gates and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear to my only son Walton Freeman of the County and State aforesaid have given, granted, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto the said Walton Freeman negro slaves:

Sally and Child Sarah

Chloe and her Child Gilley

Pen and her children Anthony, Fanny & Charlotte

Esther and her children Lydia, Dick and Abraham

Aggy and her children James, Stephen and Solomon

Rachael and her children Mary, Verite (or Write) and Hannah

Tom

Jack

two horses and thirty head of cattle, two yoke of oxen, carts and wheels, six head of sheep, fifty head of hogs, four feather beds, two dishes, one side board, twenty four sitting chairs, one walnut case and table, five barrels of brandy and all my household and kitchen furniture and plantation utensils.  To have and to hold all the above mentioned negroes and other articles of property herein intended to be conveyed unto him the said Walton Freeman his Executors and Administrators for ever.  And I the said Timothy Freeman for myself and my executors and administrators unto him the said Walton Freeman his Executors and Administrators the said slaves and other property hereby conveyed or intended to be conveyed will forever warrant and defend against the lawful claim or claims of any & all persons whatsoever – In testimony whereof I the said Timothy Freeman have hereunto set my hand and seal this the [blank]th day of April 1823
